ABOUT THE FILM The epic documentary The Island in the North gives viewers an epic look at the magically rugged landscape of Iceland, once considered the edge of the world. 🎬 The Island in the North is a narrative documentary that offers a unique insight into the magically rugged and unpredictable landscape of Iceland - a country that has been considered the very edge of the world for centuries. The original film was made in 2013, when it also premiered on Prima ZOOM. Twelve more years have passed, and after many returns to Iceland, the film has grown to include additional minutes of unique footage. In addition, today's advanced technologies have made it possible to convert the original full HD format to 4K resolution, thus restoring many details. The filmmaker travelled almost 15,000 kilometres across the island during the filming. He filmed in different seasons - early spring, late summer and winter, when he had to cope with extreme conditions. On the Eyjafjallajökull glacier, temperatures plummeted to minus 32°C and the journey to the volcano's crater took four hours in a special super-jeep. The filming equipment, weighing 15 kilograms, often had to be carried up to peaks hundreds of metres high. Many scenes required long hours of waiting for ideal lighting conditions, and when the weather finally did not permit filming, the filmmaker had to return to the same locations repeatedly. He was not stopped by the heavy frost, the strong winds or the difficult terrain. He shot dozens of hours of footage. The film takes you to places of breathtaking natural scenery that are usually hidden from the human eye, or only show up for a few random days a year. Island in the North is a tribute to patience, courage and a deep respect for the wild Nordic nature.
